i would agree with JTB's advice.
when i first started on fan duel i guess 2 years ago, it was fun seeing my name on top of an NBA tournament for most of the night. ofcourse I didnt end up winning (did cash) but cashing in tournaments is hard and not worht the payout unless you're top 5 or so.
I have had much more luck doing baseball head to heads.
I have recently started 50/50's and I think this might be the only way to win at NFL. NFL in general is much harder than NBA or MLB. MLB you can stack hitters against a shit pitcher and in both NBA and MLB you can make $$ by keeping up with top players who are out for the night and playing their cheap replacements. NFL is simply too much "any given sunday" and mid game injuries. I cashed in a 50/50 this week with AJ Green in my lineup
I also get annoyed by those radio commercials that talk about so and so who deposited 50 dollars and turned it into 630,000!!! yeah, 1 guy out of 5 million

My current week 3 50/50 lineup
QB - Cousins RB - Bernard RB - McCoy WR - Sanu WR - Benjamin WR - Cobb TE - Paul K - Cundiff D - Texans
this will ofcourse change as the week rolls on. need to hear Jordan Reeds status before i lock Paul in. Also might go cheaper on one of the RBs in favor of a better WR which I think really is the smart thing to do, I just wasnt a fan of any of the cheaper RB matchups this week.

I would like to welcome Wonder to the thread. I finished #86 and #89 in my to 50/50 100 player contest. To give you an idea of how pitiful that is; I finished one place ahead of a guy that started Carson Palmer and A.J. Green, who both got zero points, as well as starting my kicker Freese who total one point. All you folks know about me is that I finished dead last in the nomoregfiafp league last year. My first game was against Peyton Manning (7 TD passes). I got clobbered by fate all year long. Up until then, I was a real contenda, I tell ya. But now, on FanDuel my horrible picks continue. Freese was the #1 rated kicker last week on FFT, and he was a bargain of FanDuel Stafford was projected at 3 touchdowns on some sites. etc., etc., This would be more painful if the Closet league was for money or if I wasn't pissing away a grand total of $50 on FanDuel. But, Like most every guy on the planet, I do not like to loose and I do not intend to loose any further.

made some changes to the above lineup as injury news got more concrete. I ended up leaving $1000 on the table which most people think is a big no-no but I have always been on the mindset that if you are comfortable with your lineup and you don't see any player that extra $ can get you that represents an upgrade, go with your gut. No need to take an inferior player just to use your entire budget. Perfect example for me is that there were no TE's that were 1k more expensive than Paul who I felt would out produce him.
QB - Cousins RB - Jennings RB - Bradshaw WR - Calvin WR - Jordy WR - Marshall TE - Paul K - Cundiff D - Patriots
decided to stack WR and it ended up being my RB's who saved me. Im sitting in 2nd in my 20 man 50/50 with Marshall to go. 1st place team is done. I'll pass him for sure. A team behind me with 2 to go but its DST and kicker. Another team behind me with Bennett and another with Cutler. Regardless, I should easily cash.
on to week 4 and entering 2 or 3 of them.

Wonder please tell us how you ended up. x-] Seriously, look at the wide recievers. I doubt many people put together a better looking squad, and look what happened. Cousins, which could look like a risk on the road finishes as the #2 QB on Mike's stat listing. It may be the No Figure League, but you did well.

POS 47 bipolarbearcatbipolarbearcat
SCORE 103.04 QB Matt Ryan 23.64
RB Giovani Bernard 17.9
RB Darren Sproles 4.5
WR Julio Jones 32.6
WR Golden Tate 7.6
WR Andre Johnson 4.4
TE Zach Ertz 2.4
K Brandon McManus 4
D New England Patriots 6
There is how it turned out for me. I finished 47 out of 100 in a 50/50 which put me in the money. Naturally, I don't know how to act since it is my first FanDuel win. Andre Johnson did how he has done all year; my bad. Ertz caught 2 out of 3 targets. He was interferred with on the drop and got a flag on a long pass, but...no points.

Well, the Marshall near goose egg cost me 2 IBL wins and cost me in another league but I hung on to cash in the fanduel 50/50. I came in 6th out of 20 with sub par days from all 3 of my "stud" WR's.

Here is what I am going with for week 4 as of now.
QB - Romo RB - DBrown RB - KRobinson WR - Julio WR - ABrown WR - Cooks TE - Graham K - S.Graham D - Jets
This is a maxed lineup budget wise. unfortunately I don't feel as great about the value RB plays this week as I did last week. Brown seems like the no brainer value. Alfred Blue is also in the mix. Looking at the expensive RB's the only ones I love are Murray and Bell and they just feel too expensive. they still have high tags on charles, lacy, forte and they don't excite me. So I've stacked the lineup with Julio/Antonio and Jimmy. With Julius and Cameron on bye, VD gimpy, Paul on TNF (i dont like entries that start on TNF), the only other Te im really looking at as a value play is Kelce.
Also contemplating taking Golden Tate over Cooks and saving ~1,000 there but it's really not enough to upgrade my RB spot to anyone I care about..... If I went Tate and Kelce I would save 4000 and could swap Robinson for Leveon Bell... or pick up an extra hundred somewhere for Murray......

I've tried a lot of ways to pick lineups in MLB and I believe the best pitcher with strikeout potential is a must. From there, I look for the "hot" hitters. If there are positions left, I fill in with players who are in the top 5 in the batting order and have home run power. As for the NFL, I can't quite figure out if you should pick a stud QB and fill in from there or what. The NFL has me perplexed.

As for the NFL, I can't quite figure out if you should pick a stud QB and fill in from there or what. The NFL has me perplexed. I did well in baseball picking a pitcher with a soft match up and good K's. Then I would go with 2-3 value plays at varying positions. Usually 1 cheap outfielder and 2 infielders. These would be guys who had been playing well, maybe for an injured player and with good matchups either at home or in a hitters park. then for my star hitters I would again look for guys at home or in hitters parks as a tie breaker if i was between a few guys. you also want to avoid hitters facing stud pitchers like a kershaw, wainright, price when he was in tampa, cueto early in the year. sure, the hitters are studs but youre better off grabbing a different stud with a better matchup. ---------------------------------------------------------- As for NFL, I like to look for the cheapest QB who I know can put up fantasy #'s and has a matchup with shootout potential. Hence why I took Cousins last week and Romo this week. RB's have the highest risk for in game injury so I don't like to spend big there. Sometimes I will take 1 star and 1 value guy or sometimes 2 value guys. Rarely 2 stars. WR's are the safest and in todays NFL seem to put up the big time stats. I like to save most of my budget for 2 stud WRs or even 3 like i did in week 3. I usually like to play Te similarly to how I play QB, the cheapest guy who I know can produce in a soft matchup or shootout but in some cases Graham just represents a big advantage... evident this week with Julius off, Gronk not himself yet, Cameron off, Rudolph hurt, Pitta hurt, VD gimpy, Paul on TNF, Reed hurt, ...... Finally, I always choose a cheap kicker who is starting and a cheap DST. If I have $ left over and am happy with my players, Ill go back and see if there is a DST i like a little better.

That is the advantage with NFL and this style.
You can pick up a cheap TE, K and D fairly easily

Donald Brown and Cooks killed me. had i gone Goden Tate and Kelce I would have cashed even without using the extra $ on Bell over Khiry.... alas. I didn't go that direction but wanted to point out it was in my thought process.
