When our neighborhood (4,000 plus homes) had its recent bi-annual garage sale, I was given $100 in cash and sent around to see what I could find. I would have liked to have had wifey along, but she had to work (from home). As I visited the sales, I made photos on my phone and texted them back to command central. I had looked quite a while when I came across a library step. I knew what a library step was, but I had never seen one like this. I sent a picture, but "She Who Must Be Obeyed" was distracted by her work and did not quickly respond. I was all the way back home and when I cleared the front door, she burst into the room and said"Rush back to where you saw the step and tell the nice man you will take it." I didn't tell her that the guy had mentioned that he was about to leave. Sure enough when I got there everything was put away. I rang the doorbell and a little kid told me "We don't want any." from behind the door. As I was leaving the guy appeared and said he still had the step. He drug it out of the garage. linkI paid $30. I found a used one that had been sold online for $1,895. Mine is nicer. haha Obviously, some gay relative had passed away and when the family split up the loot, this piece went unappreciated. Although not an antique, it was designed by a prominent San Francisco interior designer. It got placed in our family room with a lamp on the top step and two antique books and a candle at the bottom. We just used it to place the star on top of our Christmas tree. Anybody else have a trash-to-treasure story?

I don't antique, or garage/yard sale or dumpster dive.
I'm the guy that puts a perfectly good $200 monitor out on the sidewalk with a free sign for people to take away

Nice bpb! I don't do garage sales but my friend does. She has the patience to go sort through it all. Changes up her living room every now and then.

I bought a shirt at a resale shop for $4. It was more than other shirts there which usually go for a buck or two but I thought it looked nice. So then I was wearing it at college and this nice, not-condescending rich guy I know says "Jeff, I never saw you wearing a designer label shirt before."
Really? Well, I had no idea it was a designer shirt. Honestly though, it was already my favorite shirt before the guy told me this. But I'm a little embarrassed so I told him where I got it.
I think it was Polo.
