10 team league, no PPR
Team A Gives: Dez Bryant and Chris Johnson
Team B Gives: Stevan Ridley, Danny Amen.Dola and Kenbrell Thompkins
-or-
Team C Gives: Brandon Marshall
Team D Gives: Jordy Nelson and Daryl Richardson
I was Team B, and the trade caused instant turmoil. Team A's WRs are pretty horrible Bryant, Mike Wallace, Santana Moss and Brandon Lloyd (its a pretty deep league). My rationale was, yes he is overpaying for Amendola and Thompkins, but he is at least trading his one asset for two starting WRs in a high powered offense. One other owner bitched and whined and called us blind and stupid for not seeing how unfair that trade was, and sort of vaguely threatened to leave, although later he claimed thats not what he meant. But it kind of got the natives restless, and people were kind of questioning things and junk.
Anyway did i mention that the core of this league is, if not friends, long time acquaintances? And that its free?
OK so in the interest of not breaking the league the week before the season started, me and the other owner agreed to void the trade. I know i shouldnt have, but i was just trying to avoid the drama.
Now Trade 2 is in the pipeline. And of course its radio silence from the PMS owner. To my eye this trade is not much different than Trade 1. Lets factor out Johnson and Ridley as i think they are essentially equal as second round-ish RB 2 types. (Although IMO, Ridley is the better back of the two,nd makes the Bryant overpay for Amendola and Thompkins a little less severe. But whatever)
Both Bryant and Marshall are top 5 WRs. Essentially equal.
In taking on Bryant and Johnson i was also adding the risk of either or both taking up the crack pipe again and busting hard. I am also not a fan of giving three players to get two, but whatever.
In taking on Amen.Dola he was adding some injury risk, and rookie risk with Thompkins
Amendola and Nelson are both coming off injuries, with Nelsons surgery being the most recent. In terms of receptions and yards last year, Amendola and Nelson were pretty equal, with Nelson getting a slight scoring bump based on 7 TDs vs 3. On the other hand, Amendola s situation has surely gotten way better (being the primary target in a high powered passing game) , while Nelson's has essentially stayed the same (likely the WR2 to Randall Cobb).
Thompkins has been the breakout star of Patriots trainign camp, and is firmly entrenched as the WR 2 in New England, a position that gives him tons of upside.
Richardson is the least bad of a trio of unspectacular RBs in an offense that by all accounts will be more of a spread passing game, and even with Richardson as the "starter" will likely be a RBBC, especially once Isaih Pead serves his suspension. There is certainly no clear "better" player between Richardson and Thompkins.
To my eyes these trades are essentially equal.
I have learned my FFT lessons well, and know that what is proper is to let people run their teams the way they want. I dont think either of these is a horrible trade, and i a inclined to just accpet it and move on.
But a part of me wants to bitch and whine and make a scene. Should i? Or should i just let it slide?
